Lyft Stock Rises on Robotaxi Rollout in Atlanta to Challenge Uber
Lyft Technologies (LYFT) shares climbed 3.1% Wednesday as the ride-hailing firm launched a pilot autonomous vehicle service in Atlanta with partner May Mobility. The deployment marks Lyft's first public foray into robotaxis, positioning it against Alphabet's Waymo via Uber's platform.
The service will operate modified Toyota Sienna minivans equipped with May Mobility's proprietary decision-making technology. A human safety driver will remain present during the pilot phase. While initially limited to Midtown Atlanta, the partners plan expansion to other cities—though notably, their agreement isn't exclusive, with May Mobility simultaneously preparing a separate Uber partnership in Texas.
